8 Websites with Cool, Free Math Games Your Child Will Love
Keeping kids interested in math isn’t always the easiest task. Especially when your children are younger, it’s important to set a solid math foundation so that they are ready to face more complicated math concepts later on. The following websites are our top picks for websites with free math games and other features. Some of these websites also include special accessibility for teachers who would like to use these games in the classroom.
1 - Funbrain.com
With games for grades Pre-K thru 8, Funbrain offers an array of creative educational games and adorable animations that will keep kids engaged. For parents looking for more than just math games, Funbrain also offers reading exercises, short books, and cute videos. The general style of the site, even down to the games, is a bit more cohesive than others. Our only criticism is the filtering and organization of some of the games isn’t as easy to manipulate (e.g. finding games filtered by both subject AND grade level).
2 - Math Game Time
Math Game Time provides games for grade levels Pre-K thru 7. The animations of the games are a bit stiffer, but the organized content on the site is extensive, including “real life” videos that clearly demonstrate basic math concepts in an engaging way. There are also worksheets parents can print out that go along with each math topic.
3 - Math Playground
In addition to the math games, Math Playground also hosts a collection of interactive word problems and puzzles primarily for elementary school students. Topics included are logic, geometry, algebra, probability, and fractions. Games are well organized by grade level and topic. For students needing additional help, there are also videos explaining key math concepts.
4 - Cool Math Games
Games on Cool Math Games are organized by topic rather than grade level, but the collection is extensive and include creative games that will test children’s math abilities and inspire their creativity. Cool Math Games has an additional subscriber tier that offers the games ad-free.
5 - Math Blaster
Math Blaster is a more cohesive, focused game with a sci-fi theme. Your child (or students) will become intergalactic characters saving the world using math. Students must be registered with an account, but registration is free. There is a separate section for teachers who would like to use the game in the classroom.
6 - Multiplication.com
Multiplication.com includes resources for both parents and teachers to keep kids engaged and excited about math. Multiplication.com also includes suggestions of math games teachers and parents can play with children offline. Multiplication.com also includes a “premium membership” offering even more resources for a price.
7 - MathTV
For those with students in high school, MathTV provides much more content as well as video lessons and even homework. This site does not include “cute” games, but the videos give great, in-depth explanations of foundational math concepts. Some of the videos even include Spanish versions.
8 - Hooda Math
One of the highlights of Hooda isn’t just the collection of games, but also the easy filtering. The design of the site itself is less smooth than some other sites on this list, but Hooda also has special “class pages” with a teacher login so teachers can organize special classroom games.
